Project Support
To date, the formation of the local government corporation and project vision has been supported by elected officials from municipalities along the proposed rail trail.
The Fulshear Parks and Pathways Master Plan, updated in 2020, includes a plan for a section of trail: “The Fulshear Heritage Rail Trail will include a paved pathway through the Downtown section of the FM 1093 median...The proposed pathway is planned as an integrated component of the Rail to Trail project currently in planning phases for a pedestrian/bicycle connection from Eagle Lake to Fulshear along the abandoned railroad right-of-way."
The proposed trail in Fulshear can be developed with concrete, asphalt, or decomposed granite, and such decisions will be made during design phases of the project. It would benefit the 1093 Rails to Trails project to coordinate design for continuity.
Regional greenways are identified as a major initiative in the Houston-Galveston Area Council's (H-GAC) Regional Conservation Framework. The Regional Conservation Framework was approved in 2020 by a board of directors representing the 13-county region, including Fort Bend, Austin, and Colorado counties. H-GAC has signaled support for trails, like the 1093 Rails to Trails project, that connect waterways and natural areas and protect linear corridors of land from harmful development. In December 2021, the 1093 Rails to Trails project was added to H-GAC’s Regional Conservation Initiative Priority Project List.
